It has been brought to our attention that over on Amazon reviews there are ten pages of comments from buyers of the PS4 who have said that their consoles has been as dead as a dodo when they received it. It is looking as though there are multiple problems with the console. Some people have complained about a red light and some have said they have a flashing blue pulse of death that doesn’t stop.
In October we also heard about a PS4 overheating when it was placed in a box that was closed, we saw a photo of this. The blue light turned to red on the console and this brought about the term the Red Line of Death on the net. When Shuhei Yoshida was questioned about this he said that it wasn’t true.
However it seems that some users are getting issues with the red line as we have seen videos on YouTube posted by people who are complaining about the issue.
Of course there are many PS4s out there and it is thought that it is only natural for some to be faulty when they come off the production lines. Sony said they expected this number to be around .4%.
IGN said:
“A handful of people have reported issues with their PlayStation 4 systems. This is within our expectations for a new product introduction, and the vast majority of PS4 feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. We are closely monitoring for additional reports, but we think these are isolated incidents and are on track for a great launch.
There have been several problems reported, which leads us to believe there isn’t a singular problem that could impact a broader percentage of systems. The number of affected systems represents less than .4% of shipped units to date, which is within our expectations for a new product introduction.”
In a recent update EA released a statement which said that the update to 1.50 for the PS4 was causing instability problems with games. They said:
“Sony has released a firmware update for the PlayStation 4 that is required for many features on the console. However, this update also results in stability issues while playing games on the system.
This affects all games on the PS4, including EA titles, causing crashing/freezing and non-responsive connections between the player’s console and their TV Screen.
Unfortunately since it’s an issue with Sony’s firmware, it requires a new update to fix it. Sony is working to resolve the issue as quickly as they can. They will update their System Update page as new versions are made available, and we will keep this page updated as we find out more.”
There is also multiple threads over at the support forum for the PS4, with users inundating the forum and complaining about their PS4 not working.
Things then started to get confusing as EA took their statement down about the issue being related to firmware and said that it was a mistake.
