Blue Oval have officially announced the starting price of the 2016 Focus RS so this time round we don’t have to wait for for the numbers to be leaked onto Ford’s website. The starting price in the US is $36,605 and this includes a destination fee of $875. With that money you can get a hot, fast vehicle as well as the RS offers 345 horsepower at least and takes just 4.7 seconds to go to 62 miles per hours and is able to go to a top speed of 165mph.
The 4.7 seconds slams the 0-60 achieved by lesser powered rivas such as the Volkswagen Golf R (4.9 seconds) and the Subary WRX STI (5.1 seconds). There are several high-horsepower European vehicles that could manage more though such as the Audi RS3 (4.3 second to 62mph) and the recently upgraded 2016 Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG (4.1 seconds).
Fast acceleration is easily consistently managed thanks to a mix of all-wheel drive, torque at the rear axle and launch control as well. Drivers are able to choose an option from a menu and place the vehicle into first gear, press the gas pedal and let off the clutch. The vehicle then speeds off and at 5,900 rpm a shift light on the instrument cluster is illuminated. When it reaches the 6,800 rpm redline it begins flashing.
We will have to wait till after the winter to find out which vehicle is the winner in a real-world drag race. The Focus RS is developed in Saarlouis, Germany and the first lot of deliveries to North America are believed to take place in spring 2016. Ford have not yet mentioned anything about options, however the last leak would indicate that it will most liekyl include things such as 19-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Sport Cup tires, navigation, a sunroof and leather seats.
