Popular Virus Shield Android App Turns Out To Be A Scam

It is definitely embarrassing for Google as its Play Store is the most vulnerable side of Android. Just recently, an app was added to the market and it became the top paid app in quick succession. Virus Shield got a lot of attention until Google realized it to be a scam.

The anti-malware, anti-virus, ad-blocker and anti-spyware application appears to be nothing more than a hoax as people are duped to believe it to be the real thing. It is not an individual or two that got tricked. A whopping 10,000 people was downloading the app. To make matters even worse, Virus Shield cost $4.00 in the market.

You are probably wondering on how 10k people are not able to realize it is a hoax? Well, it seems that the app shows every process done and has tha typical scanning ticks to it. Android Police came and tested Virus Shield up and the results were negative. Henceforth, Google has removed it.

This is the common problem with Google Play Now. It is not secured like the iOS app store. Over at Apple, every app developed will have to get approved first before it can be shared. Some might complain on Appleā€™s strict behaviour but looking at the case with Virus Shield, the views on it are changing.

If there is something Google can learn from Apple is security. Consumers are hoping that the Virus Shield app is an eye-opener for Google. The US tech-giant is probably doing a scan on the Play Now at the moment.
