This is a great design from X-Tomi which combines all the things that people love about the Volkswagen. He got the idea of making the GTi version of the Passat B8 Sedan and it seems to be what many people have in their dreams.
The Passat and Golf GTI do happen to share many things. They have the MQB platform along with some of the interior elements and the DSG and six speed gearboxes. However it is unlikely that we will see a mid-size sedan.
So why won’t there be a Volkswagen GTi? Well a large sedan would look quite strange, the sales of Passat are mostly made up of businessmen who don’t have the need for handbrake turns. Other car makers have tried and they have failed. For instance with the Ford Mondeo ST and the Mazda 6 MPS.
However the rendering of what could be is good as it allows people to see the red accidents on the front of the new Passat along with the Golf GTI five spoke alloys.
So the new Passat isn’t going to get a GTI version, however this doesn’t mean it will be a slow car. The twin-turbo 2 litre is on sale already and impressed many thanks to the specs. With 240 PS and 500Nm of torque the car is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds. We have heard that an even more powerful 2.0 TSI with 280 PS is coming and if so it would be faster than the Porsche Boxter.
