Nissan Leaf Ditches Driver With New Tech

Autonomous driving seems to be the way of the future and it looks like the Nissan Leaf might be joining the party as well.

Nissan was at the Group 7 Summit in Japan where they showed off the new Nissan ProPilot which is basically a Leaf fitted with the new ProPilot self-driving tech. According to Nissan, the ProPilot tech will be able to control and drive the car thanks to the high-spec laser scanner, as well as an eight was 360-degree view camera.

The scanner will measure the surroundings of the vehicle to determine the distance of the car in front as well as the obstacles surrounding the vehicle. The camera will be there to help the system decided the correct routing decision and turns.

Nissa plans to introduce the new ProPilot tech in Japan within the next few months but they will be taking baby steps first, starting off with the 1.0 version which can be used in congested traffic. The goal is to go from there to the highway and urban road driving.
