Daimler, BMW and Volkswgen are considered as the big three in the automotive industry and they are all bitter rivals with each other. On the other hand, it is BMW and Volkswagen that are more complete as they have super luxurious brands like Rolls Royce and Bentley respectively.
For Daimler, they don’t have any super luxury vehicle on their belt. The best that Daimler has is the Mercedes Benz badge but it is not good enough for the ultra-rich community. On another note, Daimler has just bought over Maybach and there are hints that the badge will be revived to rival the Bentleys and Rolls Royce.
California’s Art Center College of Design’s 6th-term transportation design student, Scott Wu Kaiser, felt that recreating Maybach will require a lot of work with no guarantee of success. The better approach is to utilize Maybach’s resources to create a new Class for Mercedes.
In detail, Kaiser called his idea the U-Class, which means ‘uppig’ or lavish in English. The U-Class will stand right above the S-Class and it will have a longer 3,175mm wheelbase. In total, the U-Class will have a measurement of 212 inches.
Having a long body will make it comparable to the Bentley Flying Spur and the Rolls Royce Ghost. Of course, the mentioned length is slightly shorter than the latter. The icing on the cake will be with the 6L twin-turbo V12 engine that will offer a smooth cruising experience and raw power.
All in all, this is a great suggestion made by Kaiser. Daimler would surely love to see the Mercedes U-Class as the face of the super luxury segment.
