The Mercedes-Benz E-Class model will be coming in with a more fuel saving engine this time around. Due to the new and stricter emission legislation, Mercedes had to make some necessary changes to their engines.
The new engine will be fitted under the hood of the Mercedes-Benz E22Od model which used to be running on a 2.2-liter engine. Now, the E220d will come running on the new OM 654 diesel engine, a 2.0-liter engine which will be delivering about 191hp.
According to Mercedes, the new engine will allow the Mercedes-Benz E-Class to be 13% more fuel efficient. The engine will also helo reduce the CO2 emission rate of the E220d by 13% as well.
Not only will be engine be lighter since it is an all-aluminium four-cylinder unit but it is also smaller than the previous engine. The new engine will weigh about 168.4kg, 34.8ky lighter than the previous engine.
