Mass Effect 4: Or Not, More Like

An IGN report says that Bioware’s next Mass effect game might depart a bit from the previous three instalments. Mass Effect 3 head writer Mac Walters also added, during an interview with Complex, that the studio intends for ME 4 to stand up in its own right.

During the interview, Walters said that the game devs have agreed to spin a story that won’t be related to Shepard, but that Mass Effect won’t start feeling like some dodgy spin-off, that its identity will stay the same, it’ll just be without Shepard and his crew. Bioware has also said that it doesn’t want ME 4 to be known as Mass Effect 4…

The ending of Mass Effect 3 got Bioware some criticism, and the studio released the Extended Cut DLC, which repaired some of the damage. Walter says there’s no more plans to change the ending or the DLC, as the game is now nearly two years old and it’s time to move on.

He also talked about the “love it or hate it” ending which really divided opinion. Some people loved it and found it very emotional, whereas some people were angered by it. Walter said he thought it was right for Shepard, but says the studio has learned from the response.

Mass Effect 3’s successor – whatever it will be known as – is still a mystery. However, the director of Bioware Montreal assures us that the devs are slaving away and that there’ll be firmer info coming soon.
