The issue was first seen with the LG Nexus 5 and Google said that this was down to errors within the driver of the phone that caused the camera app to continue running in the background, even when the app had been closed off.
Along with this Google said that other apps are to blame. One of these is Skype, which is also known to run in the background all the time.
Google did say that they are working on a fix for it. The high CPU usage seems to be down to the mm-qcamera-daemon and a fix is heading our way with the next update, the update is for the Nexus 5 only though.
It is thought that the update to Android 4.4.2 KitKat will be out soon, however we don’t know the exact date.
