The LG G3 is going to be the follow up to the LG G2 and it will be in competition with the likes of the HTC One M8, the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Samsung Galaxy S5. It is thought that on the LG G3 we will see improvements to the hardware and software that we have seen on flagships of the present and LG are going to be hoping that the handset will bring in sales that are stronger than the LG G2. Even though it won the Global Mobile Awards 2014 for Most Innovative Device manufacturer of the year, the handset didn’t sell as well as the company thought it would.
We expect the LG G3 to be released in May or June, this would fall in-line with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the Sony Xperia Z2. Both these devices made an appearance at the Mobile World Congress 2014. LG announced the HTC One M8 in March and the handset could be purchased on the day of the announcement. The arrival of the HTC One M8 was announced in late March and again it became available on the very same day. The Samsung Galaxy S5 was on the shelves on 11 April and at the moment over in North America people are still waiting to get their hands on the Sony Xperia Z2. If the LG G3 is announced in May or June, we can expect to get our hands on it around September.
It is thought that the specs of the LG G3 will put it above the HTC One M8, the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Samsung Galaxy S5. There hasn’t been anything official but we have heard that the LG G3 could arrive with a 2k display of 2560 x 1440 QHD. There had been rumours going around that we could see the HTC One M8 and the Samsung Galaxy S5 with larger resolutions, however when they arrived they were the 1080p displays. If the LG G3 did have a 2K QHD display of 5.3 inches at 2560 x 1440 it would be a big boost for LG. it has also been said that the LG G3 could come with the Snapdragon 805 quad core processor from Qualcomm and this could be clocked at 2.5GHz, it could also have 3GB of RAM. There may be 32GB of memory and support for SD card. The device may also have the 3300mAh battery and charge wirelessly.
We have heard about a 16MP camera that could have OIS+, this is something that was seen with the LG G Pro 2, on the other hand it may be the 20MP camera. If it doesn’t then it will likely match the camera of the Samsung Galaxy S5, HTC One M8 and Sony Xperia Z2, or beat them. There was talk of the camera of the LG G3 having support for 4K video capture along with slow motion. This is something that we have seen already on the LG G Pro 2. The front camera should be somewhere in the region of 2MP. The LG G3 may arrive with a uni-body design of aluminium and it could have stereo speakers on the front. IP67 water and dust proofing has been mentioned, this is included with the Sony Xperia Z2 and the Samsung Galaxy S5.
The price tag of the LG G3 is thought to be in-line with other handsets on the market. The price of the HTC One M8 and Samsung Galaxy S5 are in the $620 to $650 price range. With the improved specs of the LG G3, which have been rumoured at the moment, the price tag could come in at around $650 plus.
