LG G2 Picks Up Lollipop From Other Providers

Having launched the Android 5.0 Lollipop for the G3, LG is now preparing the update for the older G2 smartphone. Then again, the many G2 users don’t have to wait any longer for the Lollipop as they can already update their device manually.

This is made possible after XDA’s Rashed97 launched a custom ROM containing the Android 5.0 Lollipop for the LG G2 D800, D801, D802, LS980, and VS980 models.

Of course, the custom ROM is still in its early build so there are some issues with it. Rashed97 was kind enough to share that the issues are only with the GPS and video playback features. As for the LS980 and VS980, both models have an added problem with the cellular network.

Even so, Rashed97 promised to update the custom ROM accordingly and free it of any issues. So if you are an LG G user, you can apply the update with the aid of the following guide.

Pre-requisite
1. Make sure a backup is created and the device is already rooted with CWM. We recommend doing so with NANDROID.
2. A minimum of 50% battery life to ensure no disruption when installation is taking place.
3. CM12 ROM ZIP downloaded for the G2.
4. Google Apps Package downloaded.

Flashing Instruction
1. Transfer both the Custom ROM and Google Apps Package to your G2.
2. Boot device into recovery mode and wipe cache, data and system partition.
3. Flash the CM12 ROM.
4. Then, Flash the Google Apps Package.
5. The G2 should reboot and it will run on the Lollipop OS.
