LG G2 Android 5.0 Update: Late LG Open Ups Other Method

It is disappointing to be an LG G2 user as the South Korean tech giant is still pending to launch the highly anticipated Android 5.0 Lollipop update to the old flagship device. This is despite of LG’s promise to act swiftly when it comes to launching updates to its devices.

Now, there is another way to get the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS on the LG G2. If you are using either the G2 D800, D801, D802, LS980 or VS980 model, then you can head down to XDA and claim a custom ROM that was developed by Rashed97.

The custom ROM basically contains the Android 5.0 Lollipop OS and it is developed specifically for the aforementioned G2 variants. Then again, the ROM is in its early build and there are some minor issues with it. Even so, Rashed has promised to send out fixes for the custom ROM in the future.

With that being said, you are highly encouraged to head down to XDA and download the custom ROM right away. Once done, you can follow the instructions below.

Pre-requisite
1. Make sure a backup is created and the device is already rooted with CWM. We recommend doing so with NANDROID.
2. A minimum of 50% battery life to ensure no disruption when installation is taking place.
3. CM12 ROM ZIP downloaded for the G2.
4. Google Apps Package downloaded.

Flashing Instruction
1. Transfer both the Custom ROM and Google Apps Package to your G2.
2. Boot device into recovery mode and wipe cache, data and system partition.
3. Flash the CM12 ROM.
4. Then, Flash the Google Apps Package.
5. The G2 should reboot and it will run on the Lollipop OS.
