LG G2 Android 5.0 Lollipop Update: Going The Other Way

The LG G2 is an old smartphone but despite its age, many are still using the device today. The downside to this is that LG will not be updating the G2 to the Android 5.0 Lollipop but users don’t have to be saddened by this as there is another way to obtain the latest OS from Google.

XDA developer Rashed97 had just developed a custom ROM containing the Android 5.0 Lollipop and it can be obtained at the website. The custom ROM is developed specifically for the G2 D800, D801, D802, LS980 and VS980 variants.

However, G2 users should note that the custom ROM is still in its early build and there may be some issues with it. Thankfully though, Rashed97 has promised to fix the issues accordingly.

So if you are using the LG G2 and your model is compatible with the custom ROM, then you should not hold back from updating your device. We have the installation procedure right here and they are as follow.

Pre-requisite
1. Make sure a backup is created and the device is already rooted with CWM. We recommend doing so with NANDROID.
2. A minimum of 50% battery life to ensure no disruption when installation is taking place.
3. CM12 ROM ZIP downloaded for the G2.
4. Google Apps Package downloaded.

Flashing Instruction
1. Transfer both the Custom ROM and Google Apps Package to your G2.
2. Boot device into recovery mode and wipe cache, data and system partition.
3. Flash the CM12 ROM.
4. Then, Flash the Google Apps Package.
5. The G2 should reboot and it will run on the Lollipop OS.
