The LG G2 is pending to receive that Android 5.0 Lollipop update but that doesn’t bother the users at all. Apparently, this is because a handful of G2 users are already enjoying the Lollipop OS and this is made possible thanks to XDA’s Rashed97.
The independent developer had just produced a custom ROM containing the Android 5.0 Lollipop and it made specifically for the G2 D800, D801, D802, LS980, and VS980 variants.
Even so, the custom ROM is still in its early build and there are some issues that come with it. On the upside of things, the problems with the custom ROM are limited to the video recording and the GPS features. For the LS/VS980 models, there is an added issue with the cellular network.
It gets even sweeter with Rashed97, promising the G2 users that he will personally fix the issue through launching an update in the near future. With that being said, if you are a G2 user and wish to join the Lollipop movement, you can check out the following procedure.
Pre-requisite
1. Make sure a backup is created and the device is already rooted with CWM. We recommend doing so with NANDROID.
2. A minimum of 50% battery life to ensure no disruption when installation is taking place.
3. CM12 ROM ZIP downloaded for the G2.
4. Google Apps Package downloaded.
Flashing Instruction
1. Transfer both the Custom ROM and Google Apps Package to your G2.
2. Boot device into recovery mode and wipe cache, data and system partition.
3. Flash the CM12 ROM.
4. Then, Flash the Google Apps Package.
5. The G2 should reboot and it will run on the Lollipop OS.
