It seems that over in Japan Square Enix have posted a job opening on their career website. They are apparently looking for a UI Designer for the team’s current project, Kingdom Heart 3. The translation of the job posting can be seen below, which does lead to the question, is Kingdom Hearts 3 still in the design stage?
“Task Description
Design and Data Creation regarding KHIII’s UI.
While communicating with the Planners and Producers, aim at creating a user-friendly UI which is easy to understand, taking into account the appearance of the worlds and the uniqueness of the Kingdom Hearts Series.
Objectives – This Job’s Fun factor
Seeing the reaction of the millions of passionate fans worldwide who are obsessed with an exciting game experience is this job’s fun factor.
Location will be Osaka”
So if you look at this it would seem that the development of Kingdom Hearts 3 hasn’t got very far. On the other hand the UI of the game isn’t anything to do with the storyline or the worlds and this could mean that the developers have already done a lot of this. The UI is more about the controls, HUD and the pause menus.
People are expecting a release date of 2016, however there could still be a lot of work to do to get the game out by this time. But then it was suggested that the UI should be completed before going to work on the big things in the game, such as designing the levels, modelling and other things.
The question is if they have been working on the game for a few years, as was suggested, and they still haven’t got themselves a UI designer, what have they been doing all this time?
