The last time the Jeep Cherokee was hacked, the hackers were able to take control of the brakes and transmission but it looks like they could have taken controls of more features if they roll back the firmware, remove some necessary safety features and plug in their laptop.
The same guys that manage to hack into the 2014 Jeep Cherokee has now demonstrated how they can now take control of the parking brake, auto parking system, cruise control and more although gaining control is almost near impossible now.
The model that they hacked into was the same 2014 Jeep Cherokee that they hacked the last time. To take control of the Cherokee, they also had to make sure the vehicle did not have the latest software patch.
Hacker will also need to plug in a laptop to the OBD-II diagnostic port under the dash and disable come off the safety features before they took control of the vehicle. So while the hack is possible, it is actually very difficult to pull off in reality.
