Christmas has arrived earlier than expected after Microsoft made an announcement that the Office app for mobile platforms is now free of charge. This includes the Android platform and also Office for the iPad.
Furthermore, the US tech giant even went as far as taking the initiative to address iPad Office users that have been subscribing to Office 365. The latter is was introduced last year and it has been charging users $10 on Home Premium plan and $7 for Home Personal users.
In detail, Microsoft is giving a full refund to iPad’s Office 365 subscribers. The company revealed that only iPad users who subscribed to Office 365 from March 27 this year and activated it before November 6 last week are eligible for the refunding. Of course, the money returned will be in pro-rated amount that is counted on per-day basis.
Some might wonder on why Microsoft is giving away their most profitable program for free? The answer to that is pretty simple. The free Office will bless users with Word, Excel and PowerPoint. However, the programs are all pretty basic without the full tools. If users require the latter, they will have to subscribe Office on an annual basis that will cost more than $100.
Regardless, the new move by Microsoft will surely remind the masses on the power of Office. Once mobile users are depending on the free Office, they will surely request for more through the annual subscription.
