A video has been shown recently of what seems to be the front display of the 4.7 inch iPhone 6, which was put to a limited bending stress test. Now a user from YouTube got hold of the same panel and he put it through tests which including more significant bending along with scratching.
In the new video you can the user stabbing at the panel with such as a knife and keys. However he doesn’t manage to cause a great deal of damage to the display. He then shows it bending very forceful with both hands and under a shoe and the panel still doesn’t break.
He then goes on to describe the panel made from sapphire glass; however there is no way to confirm that it is indeed sapphire. Corning Gorilla Glass has some similar properties, making it resistant to scratches and it is a little bit on the flexible side.
We did hear that Apple is going to use the sapphire display on the iPhone 6 to ensure that it will be durable and resistant to scratches. However there was a rumour going around that it may be limited to the iPhone 6 with the 5.5 inch display. If this is the case then the display of the iPhone 6 with the 4.7 inch display would be made with Gorilla Glass.
It is thought that Apple will launch the iPhone 4.7 inch display in September and perhaps another device with a larger display later this year. Both of the handsets should come with the A8 processor and improvements to the camera.
