The Apple iPhone 5C is one device from Apple that isn’t doing as well as the company might have expected. But why as the phone comes in cheaper than the iPhone 5S, so you would expect it to sell better than the more expensive Apple iPhone 5S?
According to a report a former Apple ad executive believes that this is down to the price tag being just $100 difference between the two handsets. People would rather dig deep and find the extra cash to own a handset that is more powerful. But perhaps there is another reason why the device isn’t as popular? Analyst Gene Munster thinks that it could be down to the cases on the iPhone 5C.
Munster said that in a poll of 1,003 customers, only 6% said that they would consider the Apple iPhone 5C. This had dropped from December when it was 9%.
Munster said that he thought the value in going for the cheaper iPhone 5c is recognised by the customer. When paying an extra $100 the owner would get a phone built of metal along with Touch ID and the 64 bit A7 processor.
Munster also said “We believe that the concept around colors as a unique selling point has not worked as well as it had with iPods because a significant number of smartphone users cover their smartphones with cases, which was typically not the trend for iPod owners.” Would you buy a phone or not based on the colour?
