iOS 7.1 Downgrade For Untethered Jailbreak Hits The Web

Whenever Apple brings out an iOS update the jailbreakers go bonkers because owners who update to the latest version can no longer jailbreak their device and most often they can’t revert either, so they’re stuck.

The iOS 7.1 update has left owners unable to jailbreak anything, but there is a method that’s doing the rounds of the forums. Owners can apparently revert to iOS 7.0.4 because the firmware is available from lots of different websites. Here’s how you do it:

1. Connect your device (iPhone 4, 4S, 5, 5s or 5c) to your PC and launch the latest version of iTunes.
2. Boot the phone into DFU mode by pressing the power and home buttons simultaneously for ten seconds. Then release the power button only and iTunes will “read” that the phone’s entered recovery mode.
3. Hold down the shift key on your keyboard and choose restore on iTunes (Alt/Option key for Mac).
4. Choose the files you downloaded earlier and the installation should start.
We haven’t been able to revert with this method, but if you have, then do let us know. Also, if you know of another way then fill us in on that as well. Of course if you want to avoid this hassle in the first place, don’t bother upgrading to iOS 7.1.
