The hardest part for every smartphone users is when discovering that their device has reached its expiry date. This means that the smartphone they are using won’t get any more updates from their manufacturers.
This is precisely what is happening to the Samsung Galaxy S3 Mini. The users are in distraught upon learning that Samsung has ceased all future updates for the device. The manufacturer claims that there are some issues with the TouchWiz on the recently cancelled Android 4.3 update for the S3 Mini.
As disappointing as it may be, S3 Mini users can always look elsewhere to get the update. CyanogenMod saw the cries of the S3 Mini users and developed the CM10.2 ROM that will update this old device to the Jellybean OS.
Things got better as the custom Android 4.3 ROM is free of bloatwares and bugs. However, it can only be supported by the GT-I8910, I8910L and the I8910N variants of the S3 Mini.
If you wish to update your device, do ensure that it is already rooted and have CWM recovery installed. Other ingredients needed are the custom ROM, Google Apps Package, a backup created and 50% battery life. Once ready, follow the instruction below.
1. Switch off your S3 mini and reboot the device into recovery mode (press and hold Volume Up + Home + Back keys simultaneously until the Samsung logo appears).
2. Create an Android backup of the current ROM by selecting “backup and restore > backup” to save the ROM on its SD card in case you want to restore it later on.
3. Perform “wipe data/factory reset” and “wipe cache partition.” Then select “advanced > wipe Dalvik cache.”
4. Begin the installation by selecting “install zip from SD card > choose zip from SD card > find the CyanogenMod 10.2 ROM you have copied earlier > confirm installation.”
5. Repeat the previous step but this time choose the Google Package file instead.
6. Once completed, go back to the main menu and choose “Reboot System Now” to finish the process.
