Fans of Half Life 3 have been talking about the announcement of the game, which they have been waiting for, for a long time. This came about thanks to a misunderstanding of clues that Bossa Studios put into Surgeon Simulator 2013.
The first clue was found on a sticker which was on a Team Fortress 2 figure which was on the reception desk of the game. People then started talking about the stickers and they came across clues, including phone numbers that could be dialled with the telephone in the game. They also fond post it notes and speculation which led them to Half Life 3, a 6 digit code used to unlock an alien autopsy that was a secret.
Gamers then worked around the clock wanting to be the first to crack key codes and they said that the code was a hint from Bossa Studios and that Half Life 3 had indirectly been announced. Bossa Studios denied this of course, but still fans said that it was a hint about the game and fans said “well of course they would say that, wouldn’t they.”
Rumours were supported by the update for Surgeon Simulator 2013 which had the theme of Fortress 2 and Korean language. This coincided with the language pack of Half Life 2. Rumours have now spread so far around the world that Valve could no longer ignore them and they sent an email to Bossa Studios saying “hey guys, so what’s all this we’re hearing about Half-Life 3 being announced?”
Bossa Studios then talked to Valve to reassure them that the clues were meant for the Team Fortress 2 update and that speculation about Half Life 3 came around after someone had misunderstood them. However Valve have now put distance between themselves and Bossa Studios.
“The clues we were inserting were a hint at our next Surgeon Sim update, which is why it appeared at the end of our most recent update, which just so happened to be Team Fortress 2. You get a little figurine of the Medic for completing that DLC, so we thought it made sense to put the clue to our next DLC there. The problem became clear when people didn’t think we were hinting at our next DLC, they thought we were hinting at the next Half-Life. So we ended up having to move the clue elsewhere on the reception desk to remove the association.” Explained Luke Williams, the co-creator of Surgeon Simulator 2013.
