It’s been over a year and the Half Life 3 rumors just are slowing down. In fact they are getting more frequent given that early this year there were speculations that the sequel was going to go to next-generation consoles as well.
With the PS4 and Xbox One now almost in stores, can we expect Half Life 3 to finally be announced? Personally we don’t think so and it is because there’s one thing that Half Life and Half Life 2 have shown us and that is that it is not just a leap in quality that Valve aims for but also gameplay.
Gabe himself said that they don’t have anything to say about Half Life 3 and only because there hasn’t been any significant changes in its development. What this means is that yes, it is in development, but the studio is still experimenting and trying new things.
For all we know, they are still trying to find the next gravity gun or some other major innovation to make the jump from HL2 to HL3 to be be just as big as it was for the original game to Half Life 2.
And that takes time.
