Google did show off their new Project Ara last year but they have kept the details to a minimum until now.
Google was at the Google I/O 2016 last week where they revealed more about the Project Ara. The idea of Project Ara is to create a smart device that will come with switchable modules so that their users can build a phone to match their needs. Almost like what we can do with PCs now.
In the short clip of Goole showed off, the users could swap the pieces in and out. There was also a short video of the smartphone getting fitted with a few speakers. According to Google, the Project Ara will be released later this year for the developers.
Their aim will be to release the device to the consumers next year. It would be interesting to see how Project Ara will change the whole smart device market.
