Google Nexus 5 vs HTC One M8: Age Is Just A Number

The recently released HTC One M8 is by far the most beautiful smartphone ever created. Heck, it is also one of the most powerful devices around. Of course, putting beauty and power together will automatically put a huge price tag on the One M8.

With that in mind, we have decided to put the smartphone in a contest with a much cheaper device, the Google Nexus 5. This fifth-generation Nexus smartphone was brilliantly crafted and it was among the best devices created last year. Let’s see how big the difference between the Nexus 5 and the One M8 is.

In terms of appearance, the One M8 is on a league on its own. However, the Nexus 5 is still not far off. The colours, texture and design of the Nexus 5 can automatically make people forget about the plastic built of the Nexus 5.

The HTC One M8 is fitted with a 5” Super LCD 3 display that offers 1080p resolution with 445ppi. This is identical to the Nexus 5’s 4.95” True HD IPS display that offers 1080p with 445ppi. However, the sharpness of the HTC One M8’s display puts it ahead of the Nexus 5.

Under the hood, the One M8 runs on the 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 processor with 2GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, 32GB internal storage, microSD support and 2600mAh battery. The Nexus 5, on the other hand, runs on the Snapdragon 800 processor with 2GB RAM, Adreno 330 GPU, 16GB/32GB internal storage and 2300mAh battery.

Then there is the camera. HTC gave the One M8 a pair of 4MP Ultrapixel rear-cameras. While the pixel count might be small, it does capture high quality images under extreme low-light. The 8MP rear shooter on the Nexus 5 is somewhat basic and is not tuned to be the best at taking pictures.

All in all, both devices are nearly on par with each other. Thanks to the technological upgrades of recent times, the HTC One M8 is obviously the more powerful choice. As for the Nexus 5, it is amazing on how an older device is still able to compete with newer ones.
