Word was going around before Christmas that Google were about to reveal the Nexus 10 2nd gen. But this never happened, even though people thought that it would be launched to compete with the Apple iPad.
The first date for arrival was said to be Black Friday. This then changed to Cyber Monday, but these days came and went and still we heard nothing about the tablet.
The LG V510 then came to light and this was said by some people to be the Google Nexus 10 2nd gen. People thought that it would be out in time for the holidays, however the it soon became apparent that the tablet in question was the 8.3 inch LG G Pad.
It has now been said that the Google Nexus 10 2nd gen may have been nothing more than just wishful thinking on the part of Nexus fans and it may not be launched at all.
The Nexus brand name is all about affordability and quality, this was something that we have seen with the Nexus 4,5 and 7.
When the Nexus 10 was launched things were different as Google had issues sourcing the high end components they wanted for the full sized tablet and at the same time being able to keep down the price tag. The production costs were increasing and Google would not compromise when it came to specs.
So perhaps Google were put off from making a second gen Nexus 10 and perhaps they are looking for a manufacturer that is able to offer them what’s needed. Maybe LG, Asus and Samsung haven’t been able to do this.
The Apple iPad has sold in many millions, which the Nexus 10 couldn’t match. The Nexus 10 has been said to have sold about 600,000 units and the iPad tens of million.
Google may have seen the Nexus 10 as something of a flop and of course they are not going to risk following it up with a second gen. Maybe they will have to go back to the drawing board and start again.
If the Google Nexus 10 is to compete with the Apple iPad it would need to come with a quad core Snapdragon 800 processor, 2GB of RAM, the Adreno 330 graphic engine and more.
