Ford Fusion & Fiesta: Issue With The Doors

A number of Fusion, Fiesta and Lincoln MKZ vehicles are being recalled by Ford because of faulty door latches, something which appears to be becoming a recurring problem for the Blue Oval. For Ford this will be the third door datch recall of 2015. In January there was a 205,000-unit recall and in March there was a 213,000-unit recall.

This recall is quite a lot bigger though. It has affected a total of 390,000 units, including Fiestas from model years 2012 to 2014 andFusion and MKZs from 2013 and 2014 model years. The cause for this is a “broken pawl spring tab”, potentially stopping doors from being able to latch shut. Ford have stated that even if the door does shut properly, that it could come open again without giving any warning.

The Fiestas that have been affected were developed at the Cuautitlán, Mexico factory between February 1, 2012 and May 31, 2013. The Fusion and MKZ siblings were built between July 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013 at Hermosillo Assembly in Mexico.

Three cases of door malfunctions are known to Ford. In one of these cases a door opened by itself, hitting another car, whilst the driver was trying to park. In the other two cases, the door bounced back open, actually hitting drivers whilst making their way out.

Owners will be notified by Ford and will be required to report to deals to replace all four latches. Tto read the official press release look below.
