The Blackberry QNX will be used to run Sync 3 from now on instead of Microsoft, according to Ford. However, Microsoft will still be used to update the Sync 3.
Sync 3 is currently on the final stage of production and is said to be released next year. The 2016 Ford and Lincoln cars are going to be the earliest to use the new infotainment system and it will be used to fully replace the MyFord Touch system.
Even though Blackberry will be doing the future updates, they will be held at Microsoft’s Azure cloud servers and then directed to the Sync 3 system. On top of that, Microsoft is the one that allows the WiFi connectivity to be used by Sync 3.
Ford wants to replace Microsoft with Blackberry, but still use the Microsoft to get the work done. Confusing, right? Anyhow, Ford must have its own reason to do so.
