Fallout 4 is yet to get announced by Bethesda but when it arrives, the game will be the first in the franchise to debut on the Xbox One and PS4. Despite that fact, Fallout fans should not get too excited for Fallout 4 as the game might end up as a big disappointment on the technical front.
Looking at how Bethesda created Fallout 3, the title is built on the same game engine that was used by Elder Scrolls Oblivion. While the latter might be an older title, Bethesda improved on the game engine just for Fallout 3.
If the trend is to continue, then Fallout 4 might just run on the same game engine that is used on Skyrim. Of course, the mechanism will be optimized to enhance the game’s graphics but it won’t be good enough when running on next-generation gaming machines.
Some might call for Bethesda to create a new game engine for Fallout 4 but that don’t look like happening at all. This is because developing a new game engine requires years of hard work and that will only delay Fallout 4’s development further.
On another note, having Fallout 4 running on old an old game engine will make it easier for Bethesda to launch the game across all platforms. This will also benefit the game developer financially since they can reach out to a bigger gaming audience rather than being stuck with the Xbox One and PS4.
With that being said, we highly advise Fallout fans to keep their expectations low for Fallout 4. Perhaps, it is more important to get Bethesda to launch the game instead of disputing on the its technical specifications.
