Bethesda might be secretive when it comes to talking about Fallout 4 but there is no doubt that the highly anticipated title will be making its debut on the Xbox One and PS4. However, it is a mistake to hope for high-end graphics to come with Fallout 4.
Looking back at Fallout 3, the game was built on the same engine that was used by Bethesda’s other title, Elder Scrolls Oblivion. Of course, the game developer did some tweaking to ensure that the technicalities have improved on Fallout 3.
If the pattern is to keep up, then Fallout 4 will be running on Skyrim’s game engine indefinitely. This is not to say that Fallout 4 will be graphically bad but on the other hand, it won’t be great either. While Bethesda might be able to optimize the game engine for the new-gen consoles, it still won’t be enough since the game engine is old.
Even so, Fallout 4 running on Skyrim’s game engine seems likely. This is because Bethesda will be able to launch Fallout 4 across all platforms, including the Xbox 360 and PS3. In other words, Fallout 4 will be able to reach out to a bigger audience, thus, rewarding Bethesda with more profits.
On another note, Bethesda will also save cost on Fallout 4’s production if it runs on Skyrim’s game engine. This is because Bethesda will be able to develop the game for all consoles together at the same time. Also, the game developer can hold off from funding on a new game engine that will require an additional number of years to complete.
With that being said, there is no doubt that Fallout 4 won’t be graphically enhanced for the new generation gaming hardwares. Then again, this is just our opinion. We will be surprised if a new game engine is developed for Fallout 4.
