The Fallout franchise and the Elder Scrolls franchise are often developed closely to each other but they are in no way identical. At the moment, all the hype is on Fallout 4 and the game is expected to make its debut on both the Xbox One and the PS4.
However, rumours are indicating that Fallout 4 will be powered by the same game engine that was used by Elder Scrolls Skyrim. This is evident if Fallout fans are to look back at Fallout 3, which runs on the game engine used by Elder Scrolls Oblivion.
If the rumours are right, then Fallout 4 won’t look graphically exciting at all. This is not to say that Skyrim’s game engine is bad but it won’t be great if running on the latest gaming hardwares around.
Also, the idea for Bethesda to produce a new game engine for Fallout 4 seems unlikely to happen. This is because doing so will only delay Fallout 4’s release by several more years. Furthermore, having Fallout 4 running on older game engines will make it simpler and cheaper for Bethesda to produce the game.
Of course, the above is based on the latest rumours on Fallout 4 and it is best taken with a pinch of salt. Regardless of what sort of game engine Fallout 4 will run on, the most important thing is that Bethesda releases the title.
