For the first time, the new addition to the Nexus smartphone line, the Nexus 5 didn’t give users a pure Android experience. The Android 4.4 KitKat on the Nexus 5 has a new launcher call Google Experience Launcher.
For now, this launcher could not be found in any other devices. Every Android smartphone comes with a launcher, including the stock AOSP launcher the Android developers built into the Android OS. Custom launchers made by manufacturers to suit the operating system to their devices functions and features better. Some Android fans find the Google Experience Launcher that replaced the stock launcher of the Android 4.4 KitKat is rather disappointing. Many find that the strength of the Nexus smartphones in the pure Android experience it offers. Having a custom launcher, the Nexus 5 offers less of that.
However, Google did mention that for the time being, the Google Experience Launcher is exclusive to the Nexus 5. For those who wanted to try out the new launcher from Google, you will have to get the Nexus 5. Since the stock launcher didn’t offer too much customizability, the Nexus 5’s Google Experience launcher would offer users a much different experience. The new launcher might be one of Google’s marketing strategies to boost the Nexus 5 sales.
The Android 4.4 KitKat update on other Nexus devices most probably won’t bring the launcher with it. But we will never know if we might see the launcher on Google Play Store someday. Some people believe that the launcher will eventually made available on the Play Store since Android 4.4 KitKat offers users the ability to switch between launchers easily. What do you think? Will we be seeing the Google Experience Launcher on Google Play Store?
