Android 5.0 Lollipop Kicks Things Up A Notch

The Google I/O kicked off with a bang yesterday as all eyes are on the event in hopes of learning a thing or two on the next Android OS. While the search engine giant has yet to spill a bean about it, a discovery made by Andrew Heish already revealed plenty.

The Google developer was running through Android Open Source Project and realized that there were some changes made to the codes. The lad revealed that the codes are now tuned for a 64-bit processor.

These larger processors are not strangers to the masses. Many rumours are already citing a wide array of smartphones and tablets that will soon be equipped with the revolutionary computing system. With a 64-bit chipset, more bulk of data can be transferred at a single time.

Leading processor manufacturer, Qualcomm, has even confirmed that they are now developing 64-bit processors. The company has named the Snapdragon 808 and 810 to be the high-end hardwares coming later this year.

Another thing to note is with the Android API. Andrew revealed that the new code explicitly suggests that the 64-bit API will be renamed to Android L. This strongly hints on the Lollipop.

With the I/O conference already in progress, we can expect to learn more about the Android 5.0 in the coming days. Expect Google to take centre stage and unveil this highly anticipated OS.
