Talks about the Volvo XC40 has been going on for some time now and more details have been surfacing recently suggesting that the Volvo XC40 might be closer than we think.
New reports are saying that Volvo might start offering their Volvo XC40 with a plug-in hybrid engine next year. The engine is an upgraded version of the T8 Twin Engine that the XC90 is using right now but unlike the XC90, the XC40 PHEV will be coming with a front-wheel drive system.
With the plug-in hybrid engine, the vehicle will be able to offer an electric range of 31miles. When it comes to EV models, Volvo is a little behind but this could help them catch up to their competitors.
Volvo’s goal is to have sold 1 million hybrid and plug-in models by 2025 and at the same time move away from diesel engines. It will be interesting to see if they can achieve that in time.
