The Jeep Wrangler has always been popular but the limited capacity of their plant meant that Jeep could not keep up with the demands of their customers and because of that, the Jeep Wrangler was never the top-selling Jeep model. That title was given to the Cherokee.
However, now that FCA has decided to give the Jeep Wrangler plant an upgrade, we might start seeing the Jeep Wrangler on the top of Jeep’s best-selling vehicle list. It was initially speculation that the Jeep Wrangler might move to another plant but it was announced that it will be staying at their Toledo plant.
To make sure the plant is able to build the new and lighter Jeep Wrangler, FCA will be investing about $1.05billion to upgrade the plant. The upgraded plant will be able to push out about 450,000 units a year although it will only be producing 350,000 units of the Jeep Wrangler. The rest of the plant will be used to build the Jeep Wrangler based pickup truck.
The upgrade has also created 700 new jobs at the plant.
