The Honda Insight was released to compete with the Toyota Prius. The Honda Insight never really came to close to threatening the Toyota Prius and now that Toyota has given the Prius and update, the future of the Honda Insight is looking bleaker now.
The Toyota Prius which will now be called the Prius Prime will come in with a brand new exterior design. Most people were not too happy about the design of the new Toyota Prius but they might learn to love it once they hear about its improve fuel economy.
The Toyota Prius will be fitted with a 121hp 1.8 liter inline 4 engine that will be paired with a 1.2kilowatt-hour battery pack or a 0.75kWh lithium-ion pack depending on which model you go for. We are still waiting for the actual numbers but Honda is saying that the new Prius Prime should be offering about 120mpge.
The Honda Insight, on the other hand, will be coming in with a 1.3 liter four cylinder engine that will be delivering about 98hp and will be paired with 101v nickel-metal hydride battery pack. The engine will be mated to a CVT and will return about 41mpg in the city and 44mpg on the highway.
It looks like we won’t see Toyota fearing the Honda Insight anytime soon.
