We should all admit that we can’t wait for the launch of the Honda NSX, however some recent reports have stated that the vehicle’s production will not start until the middle of 2016 and now at the end of this year as we had believed.
It has been said that the main reason there is a delay is that the engine layout was changed at a late date, replacing a naturally-aspirated V6 engine with a turbocharged unit. This big change meant that a bespoke V6 engine had to be built and changed to a longitundinal configuration to replace the transverse layout that it was made for in the first place.
Autoblog have reported, quite interestingly, that the blocks and heads from the new engine will come from UK engine specialist Cosworth and will be used to create twin0-turbo powerhouses at Honda’s engine plant in Anna, Ohio. The designers had to extend their final design to allow a longitudinal twin-turbo engine to be built. This is one of the main reasons why a delay in production has happened.
They say that details are crucial. Autoblog have realsied that black paint was used by the designers to lighten the appearance of the side mirrors as well, with the top half as well as half of the arm using body colour paint, and a gloss black effect being used for the rest of it.
These few bits of information have allowed us to find out something else. It has been said that Acura/Honda will let NSX buyers create a custom order using wheel styles, paint, interior hues, optional carbon-fibre parts and trim such as side sills, rear diffuser, carbon-firbre roof and enine dress-up kits. This will be even better than the screen of a Gran Turismo game.
The best thing is saved for last. It appears that the new NSX will come with 47 individual computers used to control the electronics as well as the powertrain systems. This is a very tricky task so lets keep our fingers crossed it all happens in time for production.
