If the understated appearance of the 2017 Audi A4 is something that you are a fan of but you want something more powerful, have a look at the new S4. The new sport sedan keeps a V6, but gets rid of the supercharger and replaces it with turbocharging to be able to produce estimated US figures of 354 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The upgrade does come with one downside though and that is that Audi only have intentons to fit the mill with an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic gearbox.
The 2017 S4 is now faster than it has ever been. It takes only 4.7 seconds to go to 62 miles per hour, compared to the 4.9 seconds for the current sedan to get to 60 mph. The top speed is kept at an electronically limited 155 mph, however fuel economy is said to be getting better with a rating of 31.8 miles per gallon on the European testing cycle.
All S4s include Audi’s venerable Quattro all-wheel drive, and it usually runs with a 40:60 front-rear power split. As changes are made to the conditions, a maximum of 70 percent of the grunt can go to the front or 85 percent to the rear. The suspension has also been tweaked and sits 0.9 inches below the A4 which helps the handling.
Apart from the different badges, the new S4 don’t advertise it’s power on the vehicle. LED lighting comes as a standard and quad exhaust sit in a new rear bumper complete with a subtle diffuser. The side mirror housings have been given an aluminum-look trim as well. The vehicle’s interior is just like that of the A4, but comes with sport seats and a combination of Nappa leather and Alcantara upholstery. There s an option of Audi’s digital instrument cluster and among the three views it comes with an exclusive sport screen. The new S4 will go onto the market in 2016 as a 2017 model. As well as there being no manual, there are also no plans to release the S4 Avant in the US.
