The Subaru WRX STi used to be the one on the top but years of slow upgrade progress meant that their rival had more than enough time to catch up to them and that is exactly what happened.
The Subaru WRX STi first came in with a 300hp engine and at that time, 300hp was pretty impressive but that was 12 years ago. The current Subaru WRX STi will be powered by a 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine that will be delivering about 305hp. That means in 12 years, Subaru only bothered to increase its output by 5hp.
Then there is the fuel efficiency. The Subaru WRX STi currently return about 17mpg in the city and 23mpg on the highway and while the numbers are not that bad, it is still lower than what their competitors had to offer.
At this rate, we won’t be surprised if the Subaru WRX STi ends up trailing behind their rivals like the Ford Focus RS.
