Nissan has already confirmed that its Sports Sedan Concept will be the base model for the upcoming Maxima. Earlier today, the world managed to catch a glimpse of the next-gen Maxima after the vehicle was spotted running some test on public roads.
Unfortunately, the Maxima do not have a lot in common with the Sports Sedan Concept. The spy shots revealed that the vehicle is has a broader shape instead of the sharp look on the Concept. On the other hand, we can still spot some similarities like the V-shaped grille that is flanked by smaller inlets on each side and jagged headlights.
Then again, it is difficult to be certain as Nissan did a great job with the car’s camouflage. Even so, the Maxima mule has a black A-pillar, which strongly hints that the floating roof inspired from the GT-R will be featuring on the vehicle as well.
Over at the tail section, things are far off from the Sports Sedan Concept. The rear bumper is not as angular as the latter. Perhaps, this is Nissan’s way of toning down the Maxima from the Concept.
There has yet to be any information revealed on the sort of powertrain that will run the Maxima. However, we can expect the car to run on a 3.5L V6 mill that is paired to a CVT transmission powering the front wheels. This will generate 300hp in total. On the other hand, some suggests that the Maxima will run on the 2.5L supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid engine like the Pathfinder.
Of course, there is no certainty on the sort of engine that will rest under the Maxima’s hood, although this will surely be clarified when we get closer to the vehicle’s release date. That is expected to happen late next year.
