Aluminium might not be the strongest in the alloy family but the fact that it is lightweight has attracted many carmakers as they bid to reduce the weight of their vehicles. The reduction of weight will also improve fuel efficiency drastically.
Now, an industry insider has revealed to us that Lexus will be utilizing premium aluminium for the upcoming RX SUV. This isn’t something new for the Japanese carmaker as their recently released vehicles are all built with aluminium hood.
However, Lexus wants to expand the use on aluminium for the other parts on the vehicle. This includes the tailgate section and the closures. The insider confirmed that this will be applicable on the upcoming 2016 Lexus RX Facelift.
The SUV is being tipped for a release in fall, two-years from now, and it will come with the option of a 7-seater. Aside from that the Lexus RX will be equipped with an 8-speed automatic with the 350 and 450 variants.
It is not just with Lexus. Parent company Toyota is also utilizing aluminium for the 2016 Camry. The upcoming saloon will sport an aluminium hood that will take efficiency to a whole other level.
