Come next year, Toyota will be slashing the prices of its GT86 sports car. In addition to that, there will be a new, cheaper trim level called the Primo. Toyota revealed that the latter will retail at £22,995. The Primo is also confirmed to be sitting behind the GT86, which will still retail at £24,995.
This sudden decision from Toyota comes right after Subaru announced on the price cut for the BRZ. The regular SE BRZ will soon retail at £22,495. This is not surprising at all as both the GT86 and Subaru BRZ are twin vehicles developed together by the team of Toyota and Subaru.
However, the price cut also means that the GT86 Primo won’t be fully equipped with all the features on the GT86. The list of features taken out includes rear spoiler, HID headlights with LED running lights, keyless entry, push-start button, dual-zone climate control and cruise control. Furthermore, the GT86 Primo will only be offered with a manual transmission. There is no option for an automatic gearbox.
With Toyota GT86 Primo being introduced, Subaru could be forced to drag the price of the BRZ down further. Both companies have enjoyed a successful collaboration together but there have been some high profile disagreement between both parties lately.
