For decades now, Jeep vehicles have always symbolized something heavy duty and unbreakable. Well, this identity might soon come to an end after reports suggest that the upcoming Wrangler will be built with aluminium.
The sudden shift to aluminium from hardcore materials like steel or titanium was due to Jeep’s efficiency program. The American carmaker intends to reduce as much weight as possible to maximize every drop of fuel. In other words, a lighter Wrangler will make it more fuel efficient and more powerful at the same time.
If this is true, then it is pretty obvious that Jeep is picking up on the aluminium trend that is being practiced by most carmakers right now. With fuel prices soaring to new heights, more and more consumers made fuel efficiency as their number one priority in deciding which vehicle is right for them.
Of course, the choice of aluminium is just the tip of the iceberg. The next-gen Wrangler will also be given a raked nose and windscreen to help with its aerodynamics. There is an 8-speed automatic transmission that will operate the four-cylinder engine.
While it all sounds like great news, Jeep’s fans are actually worried that aluminium won’t be as sturdy as other metal materials. The Wrangler has a long history of being the ultimate 4×4 and fans are hoping that the upcoming model won’t deviate from this achievement.
