2015 Jeep Renegade Turns Renegade But Not In A Good Way

Jeep have made the decision to recall around 7,800 Renegades as they are concerned that their radios could easily be hacked. The company would clearly like to point out that this has nothing to do with the hacking scare that took place earlier on in the year.

The recalled Renegades are just the ones that come with the 6.5-inch touchscreen. Owners of the vehicles which have been affected will be sent a a USB jump drive which they can then plug into their car for a free software update. Owners can also go onto the UConnect website, put in their VIN, and download the software to their own jump drive. (See how in our video below.) Dealers will also do the upgrade at no cost. The software update comes with “additional security features,” which should stop any hacking from happening.

If you’re concerned, then don’t worry as this isn’t really a big issue. First of all, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles predict that more than half of the affected vehicles still remain at dealer lots. Even more importantly, FCA claim that the vulnerability on the Renegade “required unique and extensive technical knowledge, prolonged physical access to a subject vehicle and extended periods of time to write code,” which makes it very different to the issue with the Cherokee.

No Renegade owners have reported any injuries or hacks.
