Jeep is exercising a cautious approach when releasing the upcoming Cherokee next year. The all-American carmaker wishes to analyse the diesel market in the US first before deciding if timing is right for the Cherokee’s arrival.
In detail, Jeep will be monitoring the sales of the diesel Grand Cherokee. The company’s head, Mike Manly, revealed that he hopes to see the Grand Cherokee sales doubling before being convinced that the diesel market in the US is fruitful.
The lad added that the upcoming Cherokee will have a different weight and size from the existing Grand Cherokee. If the latter don’t sell well, then Jeep might be considering axing the former from a local release.
At the moment, the Cherokee is already out in Europe and it runs on a 2.0L Multihet four-cylinder turbo diesel engine. The fate of its US release remains to be a cliff hanger.
