Just recently, Hyundai announced on developing a super sport edition of the Sonata and it will be faster than the Dodge Challenger. Earlier today, Hyundai returned to the spotlight as they teased on the next-generation Sonata that is due to arrive next year.
Unlike the super sport model, this upcoming Sonata is going to lose some horsepower. Hyundai confirmed this fact as they intend to achieve better fuel consumption with the future vehicle.
In detail, the entry level Sonata will come with a 2.4L 4-cylinder engine that generates 185hp. Up one level is the 2L turbocharged engine that generates 245hp, which is down from 274hp on the existing model. However, Hyundai ensured that performance will be enhanced as the motor will perform better in low and mid-range rpm.
Furthermore, such tuning will drastically improve on fuel economy. The Sonata will come with three different driving settings and they are standard, sport and eco. The sports mode alone will offer extra grip while also returning 26mpg on combined driving conditions. Of course, we are still clueless on the sort of fuel consumption ratings for the eco mode.
As for the design, the Sonata will get some new styling as it comes equipped with a new grille, LED headlights and 18-inch wheels. Unlike most cars today, the Sonata will have a boxier structure instead of a curvy one. Inside the vehicle, there is a small central touchscreen panel and climate control buttons resting below it.
Price-wise, the Sonata Turbo retails at $28,575. The entry level model, on the other hand, retails at $21,150 and prices are capped at $33,525 if taken with the complete feature package. This includes extras like collision and lane departure warnings, parking assistance, heated seating, and electroluminescent gauges.
