2015 Hyundai Genesis Review: A Luxurious Treat From South Korea

A fortnight ago, Hyundai launched the next-gen Genesis and the saloon is lavished with all the luxuries which the South Korean carmaker has got to offer. At a glance, the Genesis does look bigger and bolder than its predecessor.

The car simply looks less generic as it arrived with a blunt nose with Genesis markings running all over every feature on the body. The solid stance amplifies the muscles on the Genesis up to a point where people might call it a Bentley from a distance.

Hyundai is offering the Genesis with two different powertrains to choose from. There is the V6 motor, which we tested and the V8 variant. The V6 mill is truly remarkable as it generates 311hp and 293ft-lbs of torque. There are three different driving tunings offered with the Genesis and they are eco, normal and sport. On mix driving modes and road conditions, the Genesis returned 12.6km/l, which is really impressive for a V6 mill.

The suspension might not be the best in the market but the fact that the Genesis is so well-proportioned makes it a fun car to handle. Also, the saloon axed the old RWD system in favour for the AWD architecture.

Inside the cabin, the Genesis is well equipped with features such as navigation, ventilated front seats, heated rears, heated steering wheel and auto-dimming side and rear view mirrors. On the downside of things, the A-pillars are really thick which create big blind spots that can hide a pedestrian crossing the street.

All in all, the Genesis is a considered as Hyundai’s great leap forward as the car makes a great alternative to a Mercedes, Audi and BMW. Also, the Genesis is quite affordable as it retails at only $53,000.
