The next-generation Honda Civic Type-R is confirmed to make its global debut early next year. Over the last couple of months, there have been a lot of sightings of the upcoming vehicle but most of them are later revealed to be another prototype of the original.
Last week however, we spotted the Honda crew at the Nurnbergring, together with the Civic Type-R all wrapped up in camouflage. While we didn’t manage to catch the vehicle going through the test, we still managed to get a good look at the upcoming hot hatchback.
Surprisingly, the Civic Type-R has got toned down from its original concept which was unveiled earlier this year. Honda has replaced the wraparound wing incorporating the tail lamps, the massively flared front and rear wheel arches, front canards, bloated rear bumper and prominent side skirts with something pretty basic instead.
While it might still be similar to the original concept, the replacement parts doesn’t offer the cutting-edge design which gives off an overall racer look.
Then again, the Civic Type-R that was spotted could just be another prototype mistaken for the final product. After all, Honda did promise that they will stick as close to the concept as possible since that is what the consumers wanted.
