2014 VW Touareg vs Jeep Grand Cherokee: Best Luxury SUV

Jeep, the off-road specialists in the US have a history for offering tough 4x4s that date back to the World War II. Today though, they are also known for building off-roaders that are more than capable when traversing rough terrains in luxury.

The flagship of the range is the Grand Cherokee and this has recently been given an update. The top Summit model that was tested comes with plenty of kit, yet it doesn’t stray from the roots of off-roading.

So how does it match up to the likes of the Volkswagen Toureg and the Infiniti QX70?

If you are looking for a family car that offers five seats and is comfortable off road then the Volkswagen Toureg would come in first place. While the R line doesn’t come as well equipped as the top specs of the Grand Cherokee, it does have some decent kit and costs less when it comes to running and buying, however you might want to add in the air-suspension. The build quality is excellent, comfortable and the driving experience is refined.

In second place is the Grand Cherokee and while it does have the all American looks, not everyone is going to like it. The Summit model comes packed out with kit, but the cabin along with boots pace could perhaps have offered more. It’s also not the sharpest to drive, but if you are in the market for a luxury SUV that is different, then you should check it out.

The Infiniti QX70 comes in second place and it does perform quite well as a sporty crossover. The ride of the car is firm, but it does come packed with standard kit. You cannot avoid the fact that the car is somewhat cramped and it does cost a lot to run, also the cabin doesn’t live up to the same standards as the other two.
