Mercedes have given their four door coupes a facelift and in the middle of the range is the Mercedes CLS 350 BlueTEC with its 3.0 litre twin turbo diesel V6 engine.
The engine is right at home in the CLS, however for 2014 it does offer healthy outputs of 258bhp and 620Nm of torque, which works in tandem along with the new 9G Tronic nine speed gearbox. You can only get it in the 350, thanks to the other CLS models having the seven speeds. It comes with new bumpers, LED lighting and infotainment system that has some improvements.
While the shift is smoother, this doesn’t improve acceleration and while it may feel faster, it still takes 6.5 seconds to get from 0 to 62mph.
The CLS 350 is 6mpg more efficient along with being 18g/km cleaner. If you flip the paddles at the back of the steering there are rapid gear changes and the throttle response is crisp.
The V6 engine helps the car to weigh in at 1,935kg and this means that some of the sharpness is lost when cornering in comparison to the cheaper four cylinder CLS 220 version.
If you go for the AMG line you get heated seating, internet access and ambient lighting fitted as standard. This means that you can save £5695 when compared to the previous CLS. The premium and premium plus packs will add in a sunroof, keyless go, a reversing camera and Harmon-Kardon hi-fi.
